But we respect it. Here is how we handle and protect your neural data, focus levels, and storylines. Simple and transparent.

I. YOUR CORTEX,
YOUR DATA

When you wear the Mendi headband, our app shines red and infrared light into your prefrontal cortex to measure hemodynamic changes. By calculating the ratio of absorbed light, we track the balance of oxygenated (HbO) and deoxygenated (HbR) blood to monitor your real-time cognitive performance.

The Sliding Window & Z-Score: We process this continuous fNIRS data through a sliding window, computing a focus z-score against your own personal baseline. We don't compare your readings to a universal standard, only to yourself.

What we keep: This neural data is actively processed on your Android or Windows device to guide the story. It exists purely as a temporary data stream.

What we DON'T keep: We do not store your raw fNIRS brain readings, light absorption ratios, or baseline metrics on our servers. We do not store your data long term. Sessions are securely held on Cloudflare and automatically deleted after a maximum of 7 days.

II. THE AI
CONNECTION

To generate an infinitely branching story tailored to you, your continuous z-score fluctuations and multiple-choice decisions are passed into a streaming Large Language Model (LLM) via OpenRouter's API. We only route through model providers that explicitly do not train or log user outputs. As you read, the LLM dynamically creates and streams the next paragraph, changing the story based on your focus levels.

This data is entirely ANONYMIZED. The AI does not know your name, email, or identity. It only gets the metrics needed to adapt the story.

III. WHAT WE
ACTUALLY STORE

  • Your Account Info: Email address for access and communication.
  • Story Progress: Where you are in your current narrative arc.
  • Generalized Performance: "You succeeded a focus check on chapter 2" (for progression, not a medical record).
  • Ephemeral Focus Scores: The 1-5 focus scores you generate are processed, used once, and kept completely ephemerally before being discarded.

Your neural data is never sold. It is never used to advertise to you. Your data stays private.
